Description
The Town of Wasaga Beach is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated professional to join our team in the role of Director, Communications & Intergovernmental Affairs.
General Responsibilities: Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director, Communications & Intergovernmental Affairs is responsible for the conception, development and execution of strategic communications, public and media relations strategies and plans supporting Council, senior management, and all Town departments, informing internal and external audiences about Town initiatives, programs and services, encouraging participation. As a member of the Town’s Emergency Operations Team, leads the Town’s communications response to all internal and external crisis situations. Representing the Town, this role will assist in developing and executing strategies to achieve Council’s goals through the connections built with other levels of government and agencies
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary Diploma or Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field;
- Proven experience working with web sites and corporate communications using a variety of media, preferably in municipal government;
- Exceptional ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, elected officials, the media and general public, both verbally and written;
- Excellent analytical, planning, organizing, conflict management skills with an ability to perform duties independently;
- Strong strategic communication skills and knowledge of political environments and internal/external communications/marketing requirements.
- Proven discretion and judgement in dealing with matters of a highly sensitive and confidential nature with an ability to maintain composure in stressful situations;
- Ability to adapt to new technology and changing priorities;
- Proficiency with computers and software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel, web and social media programs);
- Ability to work a variety of shifts during the day, evening, weekend and statutory holidays;
- Valid class G Ontario driver’s license with an appropriate drivers’ abstract and criminal records check.
